update from work

What a tiring week! But great nevertheless.

TF made the announcement; before I could reason with him. I have nothing against his decision to centralized web, Interactive, mobile and new media under IT. I just wished I had the chance to talk to him, and understand from his point of view, his bigger picture. As well as to make him understand what drives me and keeps me motivated.

2 weeks has passed after the announcement. We have finally came to an agreement that I will sit with the marketing team; but sadly away from my guys who will be sitting at IT Dept. There has been a lot of argument, that if I am now an IT staff, I should be sitting with the IT team. But my argument is, that if my role remains status quo, it makes sense for me to sit with the marketing team. After all, Interactive needs to synergize with marketing and communication is key. I am glad that all solved and done. And more reason why I adore empress.

Anyway, thewrecktan (who is now crazy in love with his Evil Janet), our corporate blogger join me as my social media specialist – which I simply love love love! Why? Coz he is the perfect guy to fit this role – social media savvy, lotsa good ideas, mature in his thinking (though he is only 25!), great writing skills, proactive and he works fast! I gave him one week to prepare his social media strategy and he came back with his first draft the next day!

Other than that, I’ve got the SEM specialist role filled as well. Hope to kick ass in all the search engines!

Interviewed a few candidate for Interactive Marketing exec role and now finalizing the perfect candidate to fit this role. For this role, I needed someone who eat, breath, sleep the internet. Someone who has a lot of drive and passion for AA. Who is creative, proactive, team player, independent and most importantly have chemistry with me :D Basically she has to be a mini karen! hahaha…

As for the web team… there’s a lot of work for me to do since it’s now ‘parked’ under Interactive. The team needs motivation and there’s lots to improve where website and enewsletter is concerned.

Last but not least, Mobile is still pretty much work in progress! Someone has got to give me a direction!

Oh boy, I’ve got a lot on my plate…

London and I

I almost chocked on my teh tarik when we received a duty call from Tony to meet him in London last week. LONDON! Wow! Seriously?!

LONDON! Has always been a little bit far fetch for me, thought AirAsia is flying to London with ridiculously low price, I just didn’t think London was gonna happen in another year or two. After all, my backpacking plan this year is to conquer the land of the Dragon(China) and the land of thousand spices (India). And Europe the year after.

When it comes to travel, there are 3 things that will have me fall head over heals with -> the air, the food and the (gorgeous) people. haha!

Although winter almost ended and Brits were ushered into spring, London’s weather was still very cold and unpredictable. Never have I thought that the weather channel could be so welcoming every morning! Believe it or not, throughout our 6 day stay in London, we have only seen the sun once! Seriously! Everyday was grey and cold, in fact…too cold for me :(

But having said that, London is still awesome! Everybody looked as thought they just stepped out from Vogue magazine! Oh yeah, Brits are a sexy bunch! Which resulted in me having visual orgasm all the time haha!

The other thing that I enjoy much about London is SHOPPING! I know this sound ridiculous but shopping in London was fantastic! Even after currency conversion to Ringgit, things were still pretty cheap compare to what we can get here in Malaysia. Just imagine…walking into Mark and Spencer, Zara, Top shop and everything is priced as half. Wouldn’t you go gaga?! I know I would, and I did! :D

The only regret I had was that I didn’t get to visit all the tourist spots! Which would be awesome for my photo album :(

But who knows, maybe I will get another duty call to London! Hehe!

battle call

It’s past midnight, my body is aching and I am fuck tired. I’ve just finished reading and replying my emails and I should be hitting the sack now but instead I am sitting here, asking myself how can I make a difference in AirAsia.

How many of us are actually aware that times are getting from bad to worst and we will need to brave ourselves for the worst recession ever? Those who are aware (ahem) stopped becoming a shopaholic, start asking friends to sponsor accommodation whenever her gf suggest a weekend getaway (ahem). For me, I’ve also stopped splurging on expensive coffee and Zara… my God I’ve even started car pooling with my colleague!

Airlines has not been spared in this grim economic situation as well. SIA has made the decision to ground 17 aircraft and cutting capacity by 11%. Ryanair will be retrenching 200 staff and Virgin Atlantic planning to retrench 600 staff.

Despite the bleakness on the economic situation, we AirAsians are all geared up to fight the battle. This is because we share Tony’s mantra to Believe the unbelievable, Dare to dream and Never take no for an answer!

And just a few hours ago, we received a ‘battle call’ from our Commercial Head – Kathleen Tan (or commonly known as The Empress) with an excerpt of her very empowering email below.

…We need a paradigm shift in mindsets, in the way we drive commercial. We need to get out of our comfort zones. Ask not what the company can do for you. Now is the time to ask what you can do for the company. We need to TAKE RISKS, we need to INNOVATE, we need CHANGE and we need a REVOLUTION to kick a storm with the competition. When faced with challenges and struggles, I also tell myself “I make a choice to work in AirAsia because I want to make a difference”. And I need all of you to think the same if we are to overcome this trying time. We are an Asian brand growing to be a global airline. We are no longer just a leading LCC but we are a global high quality airline offering low fares…

Makes you wanna work for AirAsia doesn’t it?! :p

Instead of worrying about loosing our jobs and not meeting sales target, we are constantly challenging ourselves to think out of the box to make a difference in AirAsia.

So glad that weekend is around the corner. Time to spend some quality time alone and have a work-free weekend! Though it’s quite impossible with tons of emails and proposals to catch up sigh…I so need a getaway!

Got my 2nd tatt on my wrist. Still having a tough time adjusting to it. I’ll probably have it laser off *shrugs*

Work is crazy. But I am also unlearning and relearning what I know about Interactive/online marketing. Which can only be a good thing. Just need to chill a little – which I find impossible to do.

Other than that, life is pretty much boring. Time to do something about it.

happy niu year

I feel more collected today. Read tons of travel stories online today and had me all geared up to plan for my next trip(s)! I’ve also plotted all the public holidays in my calendar and possibly making weekend trips to Jogja for my 2nd tattoo, weekend shopping at Bangkok, or beach bumming at Phuket. These are the perks that comes with working in an Airline – staff price on ticket purchase! And the good news is, we can now enjoy staff price on AAX as well! :D

It’s the first day of Chinese New Year and I am looking forward to meet my Singapore-model-wannabe-cousins. Can’t wait to get my hands on epoxy glue (how come we don’t have these in Msia?) and start zhng-ing my phone haha.

I am also excited about the Japanese Beginner’s class that I’ve registered with YMCA. Ah yes, finally all the talk about learning a new language has materialized. I’ve chosen Japanese language for very simple reasons. I’ve taken Japanese Beginner’s 7 years ago and it’s time to brush up my language skills instead of letting it go to waste. It’s a shame that I can’t hold a good conversation with the Japs on my travels. Some of the guys are really cute! haha

Anyway, here’s to good fortune and lotsa travels in the year of the OX! Happy new year!

Been a roller coaster ride for the past couple of weeks. I’ve stocked up so much anger it’s just a matter of time before I start throwing my hand phone. Sometimes I wonder why I tolerate ‘it’, do ‘it’ and believe in ‘it’. Is it worth ‘it’? I don’t know…but I do know is that, ‘it’ will come to an end too. Not today, not tomorrow. And when ‘it’ does end. Something wonderful shall begin.

Until this evening, I was still feeling pretty crappy. I was mad at a lot of thing. Mostly about clueless and stupid people. But I’ve had enough of that now. I AM better than that. And I have nothing to fear.

Despite all that emotional turmoil, I would never waste a weekend staying at home drowning in misery. Watched ‘Yes Man’ which was surprisingly entertaining. Fell in love with Zooey Deschanel’s fringe and went over to Aizuddin’s to get one for meself. But didn’t have the eyes to pull it off and now looking like a cross bred between Mongolian and Chinese hahaha! (which is not attractive at all!)

On top of that, got a hair manicure (whatever that is!) which gave me shining, silky smooth hair :p Also brought 2 books on Digital marketing and Mobile marketing. I all psyched up! Aaah…the effects of books on me.

Reminder for me:
A lot of things happened without our control. I can’t change the world or how people think. I can blame circumstances, bad choices or bad timing. Or I can choose to do something about it. Fight my way through, do my best and Trust that only good will come out from this experience.

The end, is never truly the END. But it had to come for the new Beginning to happen.

rub ‘em off

This is killing me and I don’t like the state I am in right now.

I don’t think I am cut out for relationship at all… I am too comfortable in my solitary way and I don’t think I am about to trade my freedom of thoughts, movement, dreams to just a man.

I need to erase this bit of memory that I have.

2009

I have a pretty good feeling about 2009. Perhaps, I am just being over optimistic. Which, to me is never a bad thing. If we have the choice to choose good things over bad, why choose the latter? Right?

2008 was a great year for me. I traveled quite a bit, picked up photography, got my dream job and reprogrammed me to have an unwavering belief in myself and the things that I want to accomplish.

In 2009, I will continue to travel in the hope to understand humanity in general and do things that I have always wanted to do. Like, getting inked. Haha!

I am also gonna learn a new language; sign up for Japanese language at YMCA, get my own apartment in June and start hosting travelers from couchsurfing.com :)
